I've had a really good summer. Highlghts include the Keswick convention then DCYC girls camp and then a relaxing week in Nice!<br /><br />Planning and preparation has begun for the term. My first school visit is next week with an assembly on Monday at Pinhoe school. The assembly links Strictly come dancing, Jesus' goals and gives the children (and staff) goals to aim for this year!<br />Also this week a child in one of our lunch club when asked in the activity to write any type of promise that they wanted to aim for this year wrote... "to believe in Jesus and God even when my friends don't".<br />Thanks for all your prayers. It was a good time of team bonding and envisioning for the year! We're particularly excited about the new associate workers who have come on board with us, Rosie and Joel from Riverside, Rachel from St Leonard's and other contact workers from Belmont. I am sure that there will be more people working with us throughout the year so we look forward to how God is going to work in schools this year.<br /><br />We were really encouraged by the evaluation forms that we received back from schools. The MOUSE project kicks in again! No we're not talking to children about infestations, MOUSE stands for Moving On Up to Secondary Education. These are lessons based on the life of Joseph and the choices, challenges and changes he faced. I was driving into a school car park and there was a child who had fallen over and hurt himself. He was crying and a teacher was kneeling beside him. Above are the PDAs (hand-held computers). Each child was given one of these and interacted with it by answering questions, listening to music and watching videos on it. Many children highlighted the best bit as being using the PDAs. Many children were also moved by the Life Giver zone (in the background of this photo). there<br />Please could you pray for a group of children that myself and Karis work with every week. They are all lovely children but put together can be difficult to manage as they span the whole school age range (5-11). We would really like patience and wisdom and most of all to have fun with the children and not continually have to stop the activities to get them to listen!<br /><br />We have had some good conversations with the children within the club so have to remember that God works even through difficult situations. So here is a rather belated post!<br /><br />We had a busy last week of term with lots of Christmas assemblies that were well received and actually when you thought about them - quite challenging! Christmas is a really good time to revisit the simplicity, yet complexity of God coming to earth.<br /><br />Our 2 new ventures into Countess Wear and Ellen Tinkham went well. At Countess Wear we were welcomed in sign language which was great and they would like us back for an Easter assembly! The children and staff at Ellen Tinkham enjoyed our assembly too and responded well which was encouraging as it was a completely new challenge for me.<br /><br />We hope you have all had a good refreshing Christmas break and we look forward to all God has in store for us in 2009! We have been following the Lion the witch and the wardrobe - watching a DVD clip each week and then relating it to the Christian life. This week has been really calming compared to last and I've had some really good conversations with children. We've also had lots of boys to our Ladysmith and Pinhoe lunch clubs so that is really encouraging! Stoke Hill lunch club has also greatly increased in numbers - with some boys as well!<br /><br />I don't think I've done a proper update about the residential. I have a great time building relationships with staff and children through numerous activities- especially as we faced our fears of climbing, abseiling and caving together! I got a lovely thank you card from the teacher in charge of the residential who thanked me for my Christian witness. I feel like I could sleep for a week!<br />Please pray that I will have a restful weekend. Next week is less busy so that is good. As you know with this job it's pretty much go go go all the time and I've really struggled at times over these last couple of weeks particularly.<br />Thank you! This is an excellent way to build relationships with staff and pupils and she is really looking forward to it! There's talk of going caving too!<br />As a result there will be a slightly truncated timetable in other schools, although we have only had to cancel an after school club and a lunch club for this week - pretty good going we think! Please pray for Anne-Marie and Karis who will steer the team this particular week. LIFE exhibition is coming to Exeter (based at Belmont Chapel) from March 23rd - Thurs 2nd April. It's an interative exhibition with hand held computer and different learning zones. The theme is the life of Jesus. We're looking forward to this time but we also would love your prayers for the exhibition - we will need lots of volunteers to help set up/ run the sessions/ man the cafe etc. Please prayerfully consider if you or anyone you know could offer us a morning or afternoon slot during this time. Josh Gudipati has recently joined ISCA church from SWYM, and as part of his time in Exeter he will be working with Ed in St James. Before moving into this school he is spending some time with Ed and I in St Luke's as a period of training and settling in into schools work. Please pray for him as he starts his schools ministry with the secondary schools team.<br /><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;color:#ff0000;"><strong><em>Recent Lessons:</em></strong></span><br />Ed and I took part in a Year 7 Learning to Learn class on Monday, who were thinging about the topic of 'Beliefs: Why do people believe in God?'. In the lesson the students had planned questions to throw at both of us around this subject. Both Ed and I were surprised at the depth of some of the questions they asked. These included; Do you believe in Heaven and Hell? How did you become a Christian? Why do you believe in God? ... and of course the age old how many lego bricks can you fit in a mini? :)<br /><br />In another three lessons on Tuesday I had the great opportunity to explain why I believe in God, and how He has made an impact on my life. All these RE lessons were for Year 10 students thinking about the topic of Beliefe in God and Religious Experiences.
